Chief (Mrs) Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, the matriarch of the Awolowo 
family and wife of late Obafemi Awolowo has died. She passed on in her 
sleep today September 19th at her Ikenne, Ogun state home at age 99, 
just two months before turning 100. She was born on November 25,
 1915.  May her soul rest in peace, Amen.

 saw him gasp but the doctor said it was no use. I took Jamie off the 
doctor, asked everyone to leave. He was cold and I just wanted him to be

 had tried for years to have kids and I felt so guilty. I just wanted to
 cuddle him. I unwrapped him and ordered my husband to take his shirt

 ministry in 1999, recently had engine failure and that if not for their
 skillful pilot, the plane would have crashed.</div>

The National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) 
and the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has said that 
the regular use of painkillers especially, paracetamols could lead to 
heart attacks, stroke and early death,

According to a study published in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases 
journal, patients prescribed high doses of the painkiller for long 
periods were 63% more likely to die unexpectedly.

There is also a 68% higher chance of having a heart attack or stroke and
 an almost 50% greater chance of having a stomach ulcer or bleed.

<br />
<a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="more"></a>Generally, Paracetamol is considered by doctors to be
 safer than Aspirin, which can cause stomach bleeds, and ibuprofen, 
which has also been linked to heart attacks and strokes.

But in 2013, NAFDAC and the United States Food and Drug Administration 
(FDA) had alerted Nigerians that Paracetamol had been associated with 
risk of rare but serious skin reactions known as Stevens-Johnson 
Syndrome (SJS), Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN), and Acute Generalised 
Exanthematous Pustulosis (AGEP) which can be fatal.

To this end, NAFDAC encouraged patients to report such cases to their 
health care provider, who will channel the complaint to the National 
Pharmacovigilance Centre, even as British researchers say the risks may 
have been underestimated and are calling for a major review to be 
conducted into the drug’s safety.

Meanwhile, Philip Conaghan who led an extensive research conducted on 
patients who took Paracetamol daily observing its effects advised that 
patients being prescribed the drugs for long periods for arthritis or 
muscle and joint pain should talk to their doctors about alternative 
treatments, such as exercise.</blockquote>

10 dead in Argentina helicopter collision

Two helicopters carrying passengers filming a popular European reality show crashed in a remote area of northwest Argentina, killing eight French citizens and two Argentines, authorities said.<br /><br />The helicopters crashed on Monday while flying near Villa Castelli in La Rioja province, about 1,170km northwest of Buenos Aires, La Rioja Secretary of Security Cesar Angulo told television station TN.<br /><br />All 10 people on board both aircraft were killed.<br /><br />“An explosion occured and it’s believed that they must have collided,” said Angulo. “Aeronautical experts will have to determine that”.<br /><br />La Rioja police commissary Fabian Gordillo told state news agency Telam that the dead included two Argentine pilots and eight French citizens.<br /><br />French President Francois Hollande’s office confirmed the deaths of the French nationals. The Elysee Palace said in a statement that famed sailor Florence Arthaud, Olympic swimmer Camille Muffat and boxer Alexis Vastine were among the dead.<br /><br />The pilots were identified as Juan Carlos Castillo and Roberto Abate.<br /><br />The mayor of Villa Castelli, Andres Navarrete, said the French nationals were part of a team filming the reality show “Dropped,” a survivalist programme with several versions across Europe.<br /><br />The crew had arrived on Sunday in Villa Castelli, where it had previously filmed a version of the show for Switzerland and Denmark, said Navarrette.<br /><br />The accident occurred in a rugged, sparsely populated area on the edge of the Andes mountain range that separates Argentina and Chile.

The armies of Niger and Chad on Sunday launched a major ground and air offensive against Islamist extremist group Boko Haram in northeastern Nigeria, a source from the Niger government said.<br /><br />The offensive opened up a new front against the Islamists as part of regional efforts to combat them and came after Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group in an audio message.<br /><br />“An offensive is underway against Boko Haram,” the source told AFP. “Very early this morning, the troops from Niger and Chad began an offensive against Boko Haram… in the area of Bosso and near to Diffa.”<br /><br />A resident of Diffa, located in Niger near the Nigerian border, told AFP he saw troops headed toward the frontier early Sunday followed by the sounds of heavy arms fire.<br /><br />“After some time, the detonations grew further away, an apparent sign that the troops were moving inside Nigeria,” he said.<br /><br />Privately owned radio station Anfani, based in Diffa, reported more than 200 vehicles, including those equipped with machine guns as well as tanks, ambulances, water tankers and transport trucks, in a convoy moving toward the Nigerian border.<br /><br />It also reported that aircraft had targeted Boko Haram positions on Saturday and early Sunday.<br /><br />An aid worker told AFP heavy arms fire was coming from the direction of the Doutchi bridge connecting Niger to Nigeria on Sunday morning.<br /><br />– ‘Eradicate their presence’ –<br /><br />On Friday, the African Union endorsed the creation of a regional force of up to 10,000 men to join the fight against Boko Haram.<br /><br />The force, the idea for which was adopted at an AU summit in January, will be based in Chad’s capital N’Djamena, the pan-African bloc’s Peace and Security Council said.<br /><br />It will be mandated “to prevent the spread of Boko Haram activities and other terrorist groups” and “eradicate their presence,” the body agreed in a meeting earlier week.<br /><br />Diplomats said Chad, Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger and Benin had committed to providing troops, who would “operate freely” in a still-undefined region.<br /><br />Regional efforts have however already been underway to fight Boko Haram for several weeks, particularly in the Gamboru area of Nigeria on the border with Cameroon. The borders of Nigeria, Chad, Niger and Cameroon converge in the region around Lake Chad.<br /><br />The Islamists have apparently been pummelled out of captured territory by the Nigerian army and its regional allies and have returned to their previous campaign of urban guerrilla warfare.<br /><br />With Boko Haram squeezed out of captured territory, security analysts have predicted a rise in bomb attacks in towns and cities, including to disrupt elections in three weeks’ time.<br /><br />Nigeria postponed its elections initially scheduled for February to March 28 after security chiefs said they needed more time to weaken Boko Haram.<br /><br />Shekau has vowed to disrupt the vote and widespread attacks, especially near polling stations, could prove disastrous.

MOSCOW — A suspect in the murder of the opposition politician Boris Y. Nemtsov blew himself up as the police closed in on him overnight, Russian news reports said on Sunday, while new disclosures indicated that one of the men already detained in the killing had served as a police officer in the fight against Islamic insurgents.<br /><br />Five suspects were due to be arraigned at Basmanny District Court in Moscow, Vladimir Markin, a spokesman for Russia’s Investigative Committee, said in a statement. Security forces established a cordon around the court.<br /><br />The two prime suspects, whose names have been officially confirmed, are Zaur Dadayev and Anzar Kubashev, whose arrest was announced on Saturday. There was no announcement from law enforcement agencies confirming the names of the other three suspects although details of further detentions emerged overnight.<br /><br />Mourners on Saturday at the site where the Russian opposition figure Boris Y. Nemtsov was shot and killed in February in Moscow.2 Suspects Are Detained in Killing of Kremlin CriticMARCH 7, 2015<br />The arrests and the police activity were centered in the Northern Caucasus, long a trouble spot for Russia, but there was still no coherent picture of the case from Russia’s law enforcement agencies as scattershot details emerged.<br />

The main question many Russians want answered is who ordered the brazen assassination of Mr. Nemtsov, a former deputy prime minister, in central Moscow on Feb. 27, the first killing of a such an important political figure in many years. Given the fact that the shooting took place within sight of the Kremlin, among the most heavily guarded sites in Moscow, opposition figures have accused the government of complicity in the crime, which it has denied.<br /><br />Mr. Nemtsov was one of the government’s most persistent critics and was due to publish a report that he said would reveal the involvement of the Russian military in the war in Ukraine. The Kremlin has called Russians fighting in Ukraine “volunteers.”<br /><br />Mr. Nemtsov was killed while walking across a bridge over the Moscow River with his girlfriend, who was not injured. He was shot in the back four times by a gunman who then escaped in a car driven by an accomplice.<br /><br />In the North Caucasus, the acting head of the Security Council in Ingushetia, Albert Barakhoev, was quoted by the state-run news agencies, Tass and RIA Novosti, as saying that two other men were in police custody, with all four arrests having taken place there. The two other men were Shagid Kubashev, the younger brother of Anzar, and a man described as having been in a car with Mr. Dadayev at the time of his arrest.<br /><br />All the men detained so far were Chechens, the reports said. In Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, which borders Ingushetia, one suspect blew himself up with a grenade after tossing another one at law enforcement officials outside his apartment who were demanding that he surrender, Interfax reported. No one else was injured in the blasts, the report said.<br /><br />Mr. Barakhoev revealed some new information about the suspects, including the fact that Mr. Dadayev had worked as a law enforcement officer, serving as deputy commander of a battalion of Interior Ministry troops assigned to fight Islamist insurgents. It was unclear whether he was still with the unit.<br />

The other main suspect, Mr. Kubashev, had worked for a private security company in Moscow as a guard in a hypermarket, according to Mr. Barakhoev. Both are between 30 and 35 years old, he said.<br /><br />Ajmani Dadayev, the mother of Mr. Dadayev, told state television that the Kubashev brothers were her nephews. The suspects had worked in Moscow for years without any problems, she said.<br /><br />As of midday Sunday, there had been no official police announcement about further arrests or the Grozny incident.<br /><br />There have been a series of high-profile murders of government critics in Russia over the past two decades in which the mastermind was never identified.<br /><br />Last June, for example, Moscow’s highest criminal court sentenced five men, all from the North Caucasus, to prison for the 2006 murder of the investigative journalist Anna Politkovskaya. But her supporters stress that the question of who ordered her killing remains open.<br /><br />Ms. Politkovskaya was a scathing critic of Kremlin policies in Chechnya and of the local strongman, Ramzan A. Kadyrov.<br /><br />After two wars in the 1990s, which leveled Grozny, President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia essentially subcontracted control over Chechnya to Mr. Kadyrov.<br /><br />In recent weeks, Mr. Kadyrov and his supporters have assumed a highly visible role in the movement that seeks to block any attempt to recreate in Russia the kind of political upheaval that forced a change in government in neighboring Ukraine. More broadly, these figures support the conservative, nationalistic, anti-Western ideology that Mr. Putin has made a signature of his third term.

  Australia Sunday said it stopped two teenage brothers at Sydney Airport believed to be heading to the Middle East to fight, amid growing concern in Western countries over young people joining jihadist groups.<br /><br />Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said the two boys, aged 16 and 17 and from Sydney, had tickets to an undisclosed Middle Eastern country and raised the suspicions of customs officers on Friday night.<br /><br />The case came as the families of three British schoolgirls who left their London homes to join Islamic State (IS) militants in Syria in February criticised authorities for not warning them their children risked being radicalised.<br /><br />“These two young men… are kids, not killers, and they shouldn’t be allowed to go to a foreign land to fight and to come back to our shores eventually more radicalised,” Dutton told reporters.<br /><br />“In some cases, these young people who are going off to fight in areas like Syria will be killed themselves and that’s a tragedy for their families, for their communities, and for our country.”<br /><br />The minister said a search of the boys’ luggage raised more questions about their trip and they were referred to the federal police’s counter-terrorism unit.<br /><br />He said the two youths “had taken a very radical decision ultimately without the knowledge of their parents”.<br /><br />“Their parents, as I understand it, were as shocked as any of us would be.”<br /><br />An Australian Federal Police spokeswoman said in a statement that the boys, whose identities were not released, were “arrested under suspicion of attempting to prepare for incursions into foreign countries for the purpose of engaging in hostile activities”.<br /><br />They were later handed back to their parents and an investigation is ongoing, she said.<br /><br />Dutton would not say if the teens were linked to the IS group. About 100 Australians were fighting with IS and other terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq, with another 150 supporting them at home, Prime Minister Tony Abbott said last week.<br /><br />Australia announced Tuesday it was sending another 300 troops to Iraq in a joint mission with New Zealand to help train local forces fighting to reclaim territory seized by IS.<br /><br />The nation has stepped up its security measures amid fears of heightened threats from “home-grown” IS-inspired extremists, including revoking citizenship for dual nationals linked to terrorism.

China plans to develop national legislation to fight corruption, according to a report delivered by top legislator Zhang Dejiang Sunday.<br /><br />The country will also work out revisions to the Law on Administrative Supervision, said Zhang, chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, while delivering a work report at the annual session of the top legislature.<br /><br />Making an anti-graft law is in line with a decision on rule of law adopted by the Communist Party of China Central Committee in October last year.<br /><br />The anti-graft legislation should be introduced as quickly as possible and the system of sanctions and prevention improved with the goal being a mechanism which means “officials dare not, cannot and do not want to be corrupt,” according to the decision.<br /><br />The top legislature is mulling imposing harsher punishment on those committing crimes of embezzlement and bribery.<br /><br />Criteria for imposing penalties on criminals found guilty of corruption and bribes would be modified. Heavier penalties will be imposed on those offering bribes, according to a draft amendment to the Criminal Law submitted to the NPC Standing Committee for a first reading in October last year.<br /><br />The plan for making an anti-corruption law is part of the NPC’s efforts to advance legislation in key areas to promote economic and social development.<br /><br />China will improve legislation on democracy, which includes revisions of the Electoral Law for the National People’s Congress and Local People’s Congresses, the Organic Law of the Local People’s Congresses and Local People’s Governments, the Law on Deputies to the National People’s Congress and Deputies to Local People’s Congresses, and the Law on Administrative Review.<br /><br />Legislation concerning social issues, such as community correction, anti-domestic violence, traditional Chinese medicine, charity and food safety, will be pushed forward, Zhang said in the report.<br /><br />The country will also advance legislation concerning cultural, educational and ecological issues.<br /><br />Also included in the legislation plan are a national security law, an anti-terrorism law, a law on the management of international NGOs in China, and a cyber-security law, Zhang said.

 one moment to the next, a festive Friday night at La Terrasse, crowded 
with United Nations workers and other Europeans, turned into a 
pandemonium of bullets, blood, and fear, witnesses said. A lone gunman 
burst into the restaurant, witnesses said, and began firing at tables 
where Europeans were seated, at point-blank range.</div>

 were laughing, talking. Suddenly these people came inside,” said a 
Swedish health worker, Reidun Runften, who had been dancing at the bar. 
“It was boom, boom, boom,” she said. “I was very close to the bar, and 
we just went under there. We didn’t move because they were shooting a 
lot,” she said.</div>
